Breakfast Time!

I avoided the over confident approach of posting this track during our 'Birthday Bombs' series despite the fact that the two previous Soliton Research tracks I posted did technically qualify as 'exclusive releases'.

This latest ditty is something I've knocked up recently and as usual I'll just leave you a link to the track and let you make your own mind up about it.

I've also entered it into a competition to try and win some free studio time - you can check that out here. Would love to know what you think (good or bad) so comments here or via the comp would be greatly appreciated.

Nanorhythm - Continental Breakfast

P.S. Anyone who has already heard this track, this is a slightly different version that was only completed today.

EDIT: Thanks to the guys who made the comments and for the positive feedback - much appreciated :-)

I had to temporarily change the hosting of this track as we broke March's bandwidth allowance at Soliton Research. Not sure where the comments disappeared to after the re-post?!

Dirtier Edits

After the disappointing 5th installment, the D-i-r-t-y Crew have un-earthed some gems for their next two releases, Dirty Edits #6 and Dirty Space Disco Vol 1.

First up is an obscure 80's classic which you will all recognise but few will know the artist or title. 'Goodbye Horses' by Q Lazarus is the tune used to soundtrack the serial killer Buffalo Bill dancing in the Silence of the Lambs. (Also parodied to great effect in Clerks 2 check here)

It has been given the edit treatment by Krikor and he has extended the track and removed the choruses, to great affect.

Q Lazarus - Goodbye Horses (Krikor Edit) // Dirty Edits #6

Released April 16th. Limited to 1000 copies

Next is a slo-mo disco funk bomb from back in 1982 from Yellow Power. This is part of a new release in conjunction with Tigersushi. Entitled Dirty Space Disco Vol 1, it is pretty self explanatory and does exactly what it says on the tin. Also included is a superb Joakim edit of 'Ride Me High' by legend JJ Cale. It has a great country vibe underpinned by a subtle 4/4 beat.

Yellow Power - Hai Samurai (Pilooski edit) // Dirty Space Disco Vol 1

Released April 30th. If you like the vibe of these two tracks check out www.alainfinkielkrautrock.com the blog from the D-i-r-t-y Crew.

Birthday Bombs #4

We're coming to the close of our month of Birthday celebrations and I have a couple of birthday bombs left to post. Of course I've saved the best till last.

This exclusive mix by The Glimmers was part of a series for Bacardi B live. However it does mention Mish Mash in the opening intro. I don't have a track list but I can tell you that it contains tracks by Franz Ferdinand, The Human League, Roxy Music, Sons & Daughters and Hot Chip. You can read the original post here.

Industrial Chemistry

Having heard the New Wave Electro stylings of the scientifically challenged, Crash Course In Science over at ON-OFF blog, I decided to do some more investigating into this band's sound. Having listened to the angular industrial beats and stark analogue synths, I had assumed that this was a record produced a few years previously and sporned during the Electroclash movement from around 2003. How wrong I was.

Cardboard Lamb is a proto Industrial, New Wave Electropop masterpiece from way back in 1981. Formed in 1979 in Philadelphia, Crash Course In Science is the collective of Dale Feliciello, Mallory Yago and Michael Zodorozny utilising toy instruments and live drums, which later gave way to crude drum machines and home-made synths. Their sound is angular and stark, yet possesses a robotic funkiness.

Cardboard Lamb has just been re-released with new mixes from Vitalic, David Carretta plus a re-working from the band themselves. You can buy the new release from Beatport.

Crash Course In Science - Cardboard Lamb // Planete Rouge Records.

(Originally Released on the Signals From Pier Thirteen 12" on Press Records 1981)

Check www.crashcourseinscience.com for more background info.

Here is another classic from the Industrial New Wave scene. P1/E is the pseudonym of one Alexander Hacke and one member of Einstürzende Neubauten. Again released in 1981, '49 Second Romance' is classic stark industrial synth music which still sounds totally fresh and relevent to todays scene. These tracks have been hammered by the likes of Optimo and tracks from Crash Course In Science and P1/E appear on their Cold War mix, still available here

Birthday Bombs #3

Part 3 of our birthday re-posts is given over to two tracks I posted that were only ever released on a CD given away with De:Bug magazine in Germany.

The original posts can be found here and here (as you can see from the Claro Intelecto post, I was having some teething troubles using blogger!)

Claro Intelecto - State of Grace

Moderat - Let Your Love Glow

Seeing as the Moderat track also features on The Langer's latest mix posted earlier this week I thought I'd give you all an extra Birthday treat and share another one of the fine cuts from the CD in question:

This time it's from the insanely prolific John Tejada.

Paranormal Activity

There is currently lots of activity over at Ghostly International and Spectral Sound. I got sent the brand new remix album from Lusine (AKA Jeff Mcllwain). Entitled Podgelism (Tracks taken from his debut album Serial Hodgepodge) it is a stunning collection of glitchy rhythms and intricate melodies remixed by himself plus other top-flight electronica producers including Apparat, John Tejada, Lawrence and Matthew Dear.

My favourites from the album include scatter-shot rhythms and warm tones of Flat (Lusine Remix) and Falling In (Lusine Remix). Matthew Dear steels the show however with his pure liquid electronics interpretation of Flat For You. Masterful.
Unfortunately I'm only allowed to give you one treat from this album but you can listen to the rest of this superb collection here.

Lusine - Still Life (Lusine Remix) // Podgelism LP - Ghostly International

Next up are some brand new remixes of one off the biggest tunes of last year. Audion's Mouth To Mouth was a track of atomic bomb proportions, destroying every dancefloor within a 50 mile radius. It's no surprise then to learn that is has got the remix treatment from both Heartthrob and Konrad Black. Trying to better the energy of the original would be impossible so both producers have opted to strip the track right back to it's minimal foundations leaving it's bassline and adding snippets of the original synths which gave it such a distinct sound.

We can't give you the full versions but my boy RAW has done a special little edit for your listening pleasure. You can however listen to the other mixes here.

Blinded by the Lights

While anyone with a fear of colours is definitely going to shy away from the sleeve of Gui Boratto's new album, their panic should abate once they delve inside and start listening to the musical gems contained within.

Following a string of 12"s over the last couple of years, the Brazilian's debut album for Kompakt will most definitely cement his reputation within the dance community, delivering as it does, a fine selection of styles and sounds from across the electronic spectrum.

Whether you should buy this album or not is not really questionable although you may be split over which format to go for as the LP contains a measly 6 cuts, albeit with the inclusion of some of the more dancefloor-oriented tracks such as the superb 'Mr Decay'. The CD delivers a much more generous 13, including one of my other favourites 'Xilo' - quite why this track didn't make it onto both formats though is beyond me especially when one of the six on the LP is the cheesy mid 90's mainstream dance-esque 'Beautiful Day'.

Anyway, here's Xilo in all it's guitar-tinged glory along with one of the tracks that first made people's ears prick up:

Gui Boratto - Xilo // Kompakt LP
Gui Boratto - Arquipelago // K2 12"

Check out his website too as there's details of an 'internet live transmission' of his new album.
