The Psyche's Out
Photos by Chris Morris/PYMCA. The UFO Club, London circa 1967 -70
I've been wanting to do a Psychedelic/Garage Rock post for some time now and having just acquired some new material from Beyond The Wizard's Sleeve, the time has finally presented itself. As you are probably aware, the two Wizards of which I speak are one Erol Alkan and Richard Norris and using their magical production skills they cut-up and re-edit classic Psyche Rock tracks.
The duo have just released a new EP entitled 'George' and their first 'Beyond The Wizards Sleeve EP' has been re-pressed for your aural Pleasure. They have also just Remixed Findlay Brown on Peacefrog recordings, turning his folky charms into one long Psychedelic wig out.

I couldn't do a proper Psyche post without including some original classics of the genre so here are some proper 60's moments from The 13th Floor Elevators; 'Slip Inside This House' was covered by Primal Scream on Screamadelica; The Chambers Brothers' Time Has Come Today appeared on Optimo's Psyche Out mix last year (here it is though in it's full 11 minute Psychedelic Soul version) and finally a classic from the Nuggets Compilation from the Electric Prunes.
13th Floor Elevators - Slip Inside This House // Easter Everywhere LP 1967
The Chambers Brothers - Time Has Come Today // The Time Has Come LP 1967
The Electric Prunes - I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night // Nuggets - Original Artyfacts From The First Psychedelic Era 1965-68
Labels: 13th Floor Elevators, Beyond The Wizards Sleeve, Findlay Brown, Psychedelic, Rock, The Chambers Brothers, The Electric Prunes

Wow, thanks for posting these. Finally bought nuggets when it was re-issued in the UK last year, and was not disappointed.

I thought it was fake until I watched Part 2. What do you think?

Roky Erikson is playing at the RFH in London on 18th June. He's made something of a dramatic comeback from a quite serious mental disposition. Apparently he plays "You're Gonna Miss Me" and "Splash 1" from the Elevators back catalogue.
Yesss. Am totally diggin this sound. We're doing the odd party in Sydney on this dancey-psyche tip.
Anyways, I made this re-edit of an olde Gong tune that some people may appreciate:
