This Is It

It is nearly here. One of the most anticipated follow-up albums of the year. I've heard a sneaky promo copy of the album and I can tell you, you will not be disappointed. The sound of "Untrue" follows on closely from Burial's debut with it's unmistakable urban paranoia soundscapes and scattershot broken beats. Early single "Ghost Hardware" gave us a tantalising glimpse of what was yet to come, utilising a sample of Christina Aguilera to amazing effect (never thought she sounded so good). This is a common theme among the new songs. There are a lot more vocal samples scattered through all the tracks. Tracks such as "Archangel" have a 2-step Garage feel, with fast beats interspersed with chopped vocals to create a urban hymn to the power of lost love. "Near Dark's" eerie voices sound like they have been put through an echo chamber in a deep-sea submarine. Elsewhere there are straight up ambient soundscapes on tracks "In McDonalds" and "Dog Shelter". However the all pervading sense of creeping darkness is still there throughout the album.

One minor criticism is that after a few listens the tracks do tend to show their similarities with each other. The beat patterns sound remarkably similar through most of the tracks. However just when you think that he has no more new drum patterns in his arsenal out comes the schaffel beat of the final track "Raver" to take you by surprise. Altogether "Untrue" is another seismic progression in the Dubstep sound.

I'm going to share a couple of gems from the album. These tracks are at 128kbps and have a lovely computer voice just to let you know that "This is Hyperdub Promo". I will not post any more from the album. Go out and buy it!

thank you for this critical update! :)

Thanks for posting the tracks, but for the love of all things sane get a better encoder, there are tons of horrid little jumps in these MP3s. No excuse for it these days.

Er that would be the beats. No seriously, they work fine on my iTunes. Did notice one jump in the first track. Maybe it's your player?

Thanks for doing the review of this album on our label and adding links to buying it, and we're glad you seemed to enjoy it, with reservations. I'm not sure how you got hold of a promo and its a shame for the artist that you didn't read the note asking people not to upload promo tunes onto the internet before release, but I suppose you've chosen otherwise.

Hyperdub

Langer, if Foobar2000 tells me there's a desync in an MP3, then there's definitely one there! Etched Headplate seems fine but Near Dark has quite a few. Completely messes up the rhythms. :(

Nov 5th can't come soon enough!

Incredible. Ethereal. Never knew about these guys before. Thanks for introducing me to them!

To Hyperdub. The promo copy got passed onto me from a friend but there was no note acompanying the CD. I wouldn't have posted if I had known. If you wish me to remove please let me know and it will be done.

Ive edited the kode9 mix of the preview that was on mary anne hobbs the other night i think its 13 tracks in in 17 mins its a real piece of work and the mixing is fantastic it sounds like one long soundscape.

i wonder who leaked the album?

Il wait for november the 5th now

cheers for the links to the interview.

Thanks. Yes, would be appreciated if you would remove it thanks. We would also appreciate it if you could let us know who passed you the CD. While it might be a friend, we would like to bare this in mind for the future. We've emailed you already.

"I wouldn't have posted if I had known."

Oh come on mate, that's poor. The album's on a known label and clearly unreleased, so regardless of what bit rate it's upped at, as long as it's not streamed, you're giving it away for free without the artist or label's permission. It's hard to pretend otherwise.

it's one track.

we're all going to buy the album anyway!

stop being so precious.

the artist wants to get paid. the label wants the money. we want to hear the music and we'll pay for it. so don't start harping on about the artist. you pay an advance and he receives a royalty based on SHIPPED figures not on OCC sales.

I’ve seen the light now. And it burns like heaven.
