Nathan Fake vs M83 vs MBV
A special post today.
Here at the ill-ec-tro-nic we represent any music with an electronic edge, and over the next few weeks this is going to include a lot of rock and indie records that have been given the remix treatment and in virtually all cases greatly improved the original.
But for today we have a sound off between 3 players who have a very similar style in my opinion.
First off its the new young upstart Nathan Fake, whose new album 'Drowning in a Sea of Love' was released last monday.
Its a different direction from his older techno based grooves, going for a more ethereal sound.
I'm actually more of a fan of his records when they have been remixed by other producers, the case being the mighty remix of 'The Sky Was Pink' by labelmate James Holden. Check out Border Community
Nathan Fake - Long Sunny (Fairmont Remix)
Taken from 'Drowning in a Sea of Remixes' Available here
Nathan Fake - Grandfathered
This track is an original taken from the new album and it bears a striking resemblence to the next artist.
M83
Again an artist that actually sounds better when remixed, although I am a big fan of his second album 'Dead Cities, Red Seas & Lost Ghosts'
I don't have a decent Mp3 of an original track from that album so here instead are two superb remixes.
First a mix by Jackson, which really got peoples attention. And not just because of the name either.
M83 - Run Into Flowers (Jackson's Midnight Fuck Remix)
Second a mix by Superpitcher straight out of the Kompakt stable in Cologne. This was also a big remix last year.
M83 - Don't Save Us From the Flames (Superpitcher Remix)
Buy M83 from Juno
Finally they all have to bow down and pay homage to the master of layered noise, Kevin Shields and My Bloody Valentine.
Loveless is one of my all time favorite albums, and is impossible to improve upon, however Andrew Weatherall had a bloody good go and the result is fantastic. This is now a rare record and exchanges hands for silly money on eBay.
My Bloody Valentine - Soon (Andrew Weatherall Remix)
Finally another rare treat from Mr Shields. An instrumental track from a 7" given away free with the first 5000 copies of 'Isn't Anything'. It utilises a breakbeat from Public Enemy's 'It Takes A Nation of Millions' album, also sampled by Madonna for 'Justify My Love'.
My Bloody Valentine - Instrumental B
Yes there is no contest really, bow down and pay homage.
